You always remember your First (MG)
It all started quite simply one day. Our 8th wedding anniversary was
approaching. My wife has 2 bits of news before the big day. First she just
got notice she was being laid off! After that shock, she mentions that she
also bought me an MG she saw on the side of the road for our anniversary!
She got tired of me asking to borrow the new Audi we recently bought to
race in local autocross events. I have alway been interested in MGB cars
since she used to own a couple Bs years ago! I spent countless hours on
eBay looking..drooling over the cars. Never in my wildest dreams think I
would own one!
Even with the news of her job loss, we go ahead and purchase the MGB. It is
a 1980 MGB, Inca Yellow. Very pretty car! We get a ride up to pick the car
up. The car is better looking than I thought! But mechanically, less than
optimal. Save that story for another day!
On the drive home, we decide to drive the backroads home, it is a MG with
an unknown history, so we take it carefully. First thing off the bat, there is
zero power. The brakes are marginal at best. Since this is my first MG, I
figure it is normal.
We limp home...Very underwhelmed about this purchase. We are not even
home yet, and I am beginning to think this was a BIG mistake! Little did I
know at the time, this was the start of something wonderful! Almost as
wonderful as my wife :)
